Anxiety

Anxiety is a natural response to stress, but when it becomes overwhelming or persistent, it can significantly affect daily life. Anxiety can show up in many forms, including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, and specific phobias. At LiveWell Psychology, Dr. Jessica Tomasula specializes in helping children, adolescents, and adults understand and manage anxiety.

Anxiety can look different depending on age. In children, it may appear as frequent worry, tantrums, avoidance of school or activities, difficulty sleeping, or physical complaints such as stomachaches or headaches. Adolescents might experience irritability, mood swings, social withdrawal, perfectionism, or panic-like episodes in stressful situations. In adults, anxiety often presents as constant worry, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, avoidance of certain situations, or sudden intense episodes of fear or panic.

Dr. Tomasula works collaboratively with clients to identify underlying triggers and develop effective coping strategies. She utilizes evidence-based treatments, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness techniques, and the SPACE Program (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions), which focuses on empowering parents to help reduce their child’s anxiety in a compassionate and structured way. She also incorporates insights from the book Breaking Free of Child Anxiety and OCD, which provides practical strategies for helping children manage anxiety and obsessive-compulsive behaviors.

Her compassionate, individualized approach empowers clients to regain control over their emotions, build resilience, and find relief from anxiety’s impact on daily life.
