A Mid-Year Check-In: How Are You Really Doing?

As we reach the middle of the year, many of us naturally reflect on goals, accomplishments, and plans for the months ahead. We may ask ourselves whether we're where we thought we'd be by now. While reflection can be valuable, it can also become an opportunity for self-criticism if we're not careful.

At LiveWell Psychology, Dr. Jessica Tomasula encourages her patients to approach a mid-year check-in with curiosity rather than judgment. Instead of focusing solely on what hasn't happened yet, consider what you have navigated, learned, and managed over the past six months. Life rarely unfolds exactly as planned, and growth often occurs in ways that aren't reflected on a checklist.

Take a moment to ask yourself: How have I been caring for my mental and emotional well-being? What has been draining my energy? What has brought me joy, meaning, or connection? What do I need more of—and less of—as I move into the second half of the year?

A meaningful check-in isn't about measuring your worth by your productivity. It's about increasing awareness of your needs and making intentional choices that support your well-being.

If you've been feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or disconnected, this may be a good time to pause and give yourself the same compassion you would offer a friend. Small adjustments can create meaningful change, and it's never too late to reset your priorities.

The middle of the year isn't simply a marker of time passing. It's an opportunity to reconnect with yourself and move forward with greater clarity, self-compassion, and purpose. Please reach out to us at LiveWell Psychology to learn about how we can support you.
